Royal Mail – Employed Courier Guide

Royal Mail offers employed positions rather than self-employed contracts, making it unique among major UK parcel networks. Postal workers (posties) and van drivers receive PAYE pay, a pension, holiday pay, and sick pay — at the cost of schedule flexibility.

Pay & Roles

Royal Mail posties typically start at £12–13/hr. Parcel van drivers earn £13–14/hr. HGV drivers earn £14–18/hr. Pay rises annually and senior positions are available. All roles include a pension, 22+ days holiday, and sick pay.

Employment vs Self-Employment

Unlike Evri, Amazon Flex, or DPD owner-driver roles, Royal Mail employment means regular hours, guaranteed income, and employment rights. However, there is less flexibility and you cannot work multiple platforms simultaneously.
