Evri Courier Insurance UK: What Cover You Need and What Evri Provides

To deliver for Evri as a self-employed courier, you must hold valid hire and reward (H&R) motor insurance for the vehicle you use. Standard car or van insurance does not cover paid parcel delivery and is not accepted by Evri. Evri has historically provided a level of goods in transit cover for parcels in your care during rounds, but this does not replace the motor insurance you must arrange yourself.

Why Standard Insurance Is Not Enough

UK motor insurance policies cover specific classes of use. Standard social/domestic/pleasure cover — and even business use extensions (class 1–3) — do not cover the carriage of goods for payment. Delivering Evri parcels on a standard policy means you are driving uninsured for the relevant use, which can result in rejected claims, prosecution, fines, and vehicle seizure under the Road Traffic Act. You must hold hire and reward (H&R) cover.

What You Must Arrange vs What Evri Provides

You must arrange: hire and reward motor insurance (legal requirement), and public liability insurance (required by Evri courier agreements — check your specific agreement for the minimum limit). Evri has historically provided self-employed couriers with a level of goods in transit (GIT) cover for parcels in your care during delivery rounds. The specifics — per-parcel limit, exclusions, and whether GIT is still included — are set out in your current Evri courier agreement. Always verify with your own agreement rather than relying on third-party summaries.

Annual vs Flexible Cover for Evri Rounds

Evri self-employed couriers typically have assigned rounds and work regularly, which usually makes an annual hire and reward policy the most cost-effective choice. Flexible or pay-per-shift top-up policies are better suited to occasional deliverers. If using a top-up policy, ensure it explicitly covers parcel delivery and Evri rounds, and that your base motor policy remains valid at all times. Have these details ready for a quote: vehicle registration and age, estimated annual business mileage, driving licence details and any endorsements, and the public liability minimum from your Evri agreement.
